With each new iPhone model, Apple introduces innovations to the smartphone market, constantly striving to improve their devices. This time, the focus is on a significant step in the display department. Over the years, iPhone models have been criticized for their notch and thick screen bezels, but in the coming years, they may reach a whole new level.
Apple presses the button for a bezel-less iPhone model.
As per the latest information, Apple has asked Samsung Display and LG Display to develop an OLED screen that eliminates all the front bezels of the iPhone. For Samsung Display and LG Display to accomplish the bezel-less OLED as Apple desires, they need to make significant advancements in various technologies.
To produce a bezel-less screen as Apple wants, these two companies need to improve Thin Film Encapsulation (TFE) and Under Panel Camera (UPC) technologies. Additionally, the antenna area must also be taken into account. Hence, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for bezel-less iPhone models.
While implementing a bezel-less screen, Apple aims to retain the flat display and angular design of the iPhone. Therefore, the curved screen design used by other phone manufacturers is not an option for the new generation of iPhones. Apple believes that the curved part of the screens affects resolution and compromises the durability of the phone.
To realize the bezel-less design without the use of a curved screen, all the circuits in the current frame area must be placed underneath the display. This means less space for both the antenna and other components. Nevertheless, Apple is determined to achieve this goal.
Working toward this objective, Apple has already started thinning down the screen bezels with each new model and eventually aims to offer a bezel-less iPhone model to its users. Samsung and LG have also begun their efforts in this direction.
Now, let’s see if Apple will be able to bring its bezel-less iPhone plan to life soon. What are your thoughts on bezel-less smartphones? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
